The Company

Ayotte Drums is a privately-held, Vancouver-based manufacturer of custom hand-crafted drums and accessories which today are used by an enviable list of internationally renowned artists including percussionists for Nickelback, Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace, Alanis Morisette, and avid drum enthusiasts worldwide.

With origins dating back to 1972, Ayotte Drums is the only percussion instrument manufacturer that specializes in custom drums "hand made by drummers for drummers." To this day, innovation, craftsmanship, quality and assurance continue to be Ayotte's key differentiating strengths, with the company having pioneered the reintroduction of the wooden hoop to the modern drum kit, the development of a simple yet highly effective TuneLock system, the use of multi-ply wood in snare drums and the introduction of a direct-to-customer business model which enables users to custom design and order drums directly from the manufacturer online, an industry first.

Company Brochure

In September 2002, Ayotte Drums, now under new management, was poised to re-launch the company and showcase its products alongside other Canadian goods to foreign government officials and new international client prospects during a highly publicized Canadian trade mission. With the trade mission fast approaching, Ayotte Drums management needed to quickly develop a collateral piece that would effectively introduce the company and its products to foreign artists, music distributors, retailers and buyers. Ayotte Drums turned to Converge Creative for help in developing a creative collateral piece that would effectively communicate the brand image and positioning of the company, and capture in print what is the essence of Ayotte Drums ­ a passion for percussion sound, continuous innovation and improvement, and unrivaled custom craftsmanship. We responded by designing, copywriting and coordinating print production of a 2-page, double-sided, full-colour brochure over a tight 6-day period, just in time for the Canadian trade mission overseas.


Product Catalogue

With three product lines of drums, and hundreds of different sizes and colour combinations to choose from, Ayotte Drums needed to develop a product catalogue that would effectively showcase the superior quality materials, passion, creativity, ingenuity and obsessive attention to detail that goes into each and every custom hand-crafted drum they make. The company challenged Converge Creative to design and produce an innovative catalogue that would satisfy their unique requirements. The end result was a 10-page, double-sided, full colour product catalogue and complementary drum colour swatch book that remains unrivaled by the competition. The Ayotte Drums product catalogue is now the company's principal marketing collateral piece ­ it was Ayotte's primary marketing tool at the Frankfurt Musikmesse 2003, the world's largest trade fair for musical instruments with 1,465 exhibitors and more than 79,000 trade visitors and end-consumers, and today is being distributed to artists, music distributors, retailers and buyers worldwide.


E-Commerce Website

The Ayotte Drums e-commerce website was first launched in 1999. While the original website did facilitate online sales of Ayotte drums through a virtual storefront, management quickly realized that it did little to establish and reinforce the unique and compelling attributes of Ayotte and the values on which the company was founded ­ passion, innovation, and quality custom hand-craftsmanship. Recognizing the importance of company credibility to product sales, Ayotte Drums turned to Converge Creative to transform their original website into a newly redesigned website that would effectively communicate the history and philosophy behind the company, its people and its drums.

After gaining a detailed understanding of Ayotte Drums, the music industry and the characteristics of the company's target audience, Converge Creative was able to redesign the Ayotte Drums website to more effectively reflect the culture and values of the company. We designed a fun and vibrant country-specific website that incorporates the company's existing brand image and effectively tells the "Ayotte Story", while showcasing the company's products and maintaining the site's e-commerce capabilities. In addition to the overall website design, Converge Creative is also credited with developing the overall site architecture and navigation as well as for completing all content development and copywriting for the site.
