UBC Campus Parkade Map and Brochures
The UBC Parking Access and Control Services Department provides infrastructure services that are integral to the day-to-day operation of the University of British Columbia including the management and administration of surface parking lots, parkades, loading zones, metered parking areas, shuttle bus services, and permits and passes. The department is therefore required to communicate important information on its services to all students, faculty, staff and visitors to the UBC campus.
In the past, UBC Parking provided students, faculty, staff and visitors to the UBC campus with a campus map originally developed by UBC Campus Planning & Development to help them find campus parkades. This map, however, provided a complete and elaborate view of the entire UBC campus including among other things, all campus buildings, streets, public transportation points, cafeterias etc., making it difficult for users to quickly and easily locate campus parking facilities. UBC Parking therefore made the decision to develop its own simplified UBC Parking Map tailored to meet the individual needs of the department's target audience segments. Converge Creative was chosen to design and produce the new UBC Parking Map as well as a series of Student and Faculty/Staff Brochures to make it easier for students, faculty, staff and visitors to quickly visualize the parking options available to them on campus. Each piece was designed in accordance with the UBC Parking's new brand image as well as general UBC branding guidelines.
UBC Student Card Signage
In 2003, UBC initiated plans to consolidate the various cards currently in use on campus and implement a single UBC Card to simplify and streamline the acquisition and provision of on-campus services for UBC faculty, staff and students. In order to ensure the successful rollout of the new UBC Card, university staff recognized the need to effectively communicate when, where and how UBC students, faculty and staff could obtain the new UBC Card. Key to this communication effort was the production of UBC Card signage to be posted throughout the campus. UBC chose Converge Creative to design and produce the signage required to communicate details about the new UBC Card to all campus stakeholders.
UBC Student Card Filler
Today there are more than 30 different cards being used to access a wealth of services throughout the University of British Columbia. In 2003, UBC initiated plans to consolidate the various cards currently in use on campus and implement a single UBC Card to simplify and streamline the acquisition and provision of on-campus services for UBC faculty, staff and students. The new UBC Card was originally designed to house key information on individual student, faculty and staff members, including a photograph of each person. During the rollout of the new UBC Card, however, the decision was made to relax the requirement for a photo to be included on every UBC Card, leaving university staff challenged to find a simple way to effectively "fill" the white space that remained on the card when a photo was not available. UBC turned to Converge Creative to find a solution to this problem and we responded by designing a unique "card filler" based on the universityıs existing brand image that worked well within the cardıs existing design, and could also be printed in-house by UBC staff on the university's specially designed student card printers.
UBC Parking Website
(www.parking.ubc.ca)
UBC Parking is responsible for the overall management and administration of surface parking lots, parkades, loading zones, metered parking areas, shuttle bus services, and permits and passes on behalf of the University of British Columbia. The department is therefore required to regularly communicate key information on its services to all students, faculty, staff and visitors to the UBC campus. As part of its ongoing communications efforts, UBC Parking chose Converge Creative to redesign its website to reflect the department's newly developed branding strategy which uniquely identifies UBC Parking while satisfying UBC's universal branding guidelines. We responded by developing a creative, informative and user-friendly website based on the new UBC Parking brand image which provides students, faculty, staff and visitors to the UBC campus with easy access to the information they need in order to effectively leverage UBC Parking services.
